California leads the nation with its ambitious programs to combat climate change. Through these efforts, the state is making a growing number of investments in clean energy, clean transportation and other economic sectors. In addition to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, these investments are reducing air pollution, improving public health, creating jobs, reducing energy costs and growing our economy.
California’s pioneering climate law – AB 32, passed in 2006 with bipartisan support – set the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020. California is on track to meeting its goal through a suite of complementary policies and programs. These include:
Building on these programs, Governor Brown recently issued an executive order to establish a California greenhouse gas reduction target of 40 percent below 1990 levels by 2030, the most ambitious target of any government in North America. The Legislature is considering a number of key measures to achieve greater reductions and help drive continued investments in California’s clean energy future.
This map illustrates these growing investments at the local and regional level. Use this site to view investments in any of the state’s 120 legislative districts. Individual projects are identified with flags, and total investments for each district are summarized by sector in the tab section. Future versions of this map will summarize data by other geographic boundaries (city, county, zip code, air districts, etc.).
These investments represent many of the state’s largest and better known climate and clean energy programs. As we continue to refine this site, we will add other programs and investments that are part of California’s growing efforts to fight climate change and invest in a clean energy economy.
Not all projects in every state program are represented in this map.
